Yes, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes (“TSTF”)might be an airline tycoon, but I am not very much sure he is very much well versed in airport management and air traffic control. It is no doubt that these 3 work hand in hand (the airline need airport, airport need air traffic control, airline also need air traffic control for safety, landing and take off). However, dealing with one matter is not the same with others.
The way I see it, TSTF is trying to control air industry and will try to remove who is in his way.
Yes, he has managed Air Asia well, and now he sits in MAS board of director (but yet to see the impact how good he will get MAS flying above loss making line). And now, he is attacking MAHB, perhaps because he failed to have his own airport and he cannot take over air traffic control from Department of Civil Aviation. However, if he can get airport under his belt, very much I can predict he can meddle with DCA’s business.
Rumours already flying around that Air Asia airlines is the most difficult to handle in regards to airports and air traffic control. This may sound offensive, but to some, Air Asia pilots are also known as Bas Mini Wilayah’s driver. They are land, dock and take off as at when they can. They will push the airport and air traffic controller to “prioritize” them whenever they are in business.
For example, if they are in the queue to land, but not in the next line, they will push the air traffic controller to allow them land. For air traffic controller, they also have their responsibilities to ensure safety for ALL airlines, but Air Asia sometimes being too much and pushed them over the limit sometime just to accommodate them. This are among examples that Air Asia has done to others. I don’t know how many flight rules that Air Asia has breached from this one example alone.
So, just imagine, if he has his own airport, having airport under his control or had his Labu Airport. How do you think the airport business and air traffic would be? Will it be fair for all, or fair to only Air Asia?
It is near 6pm already.. so I wonder if really the MD of MAHB will get the sacking…
Question on the street: All these talks and rumours are taking TSTF as Air Asia… how about MAS? Do MAS and other airlines have complaint over the airport tax?
