That was the headline when asked about the sudden actions and reactions of UMNO’s Penang intention to lead Barisan in Penang. As for me, it is a good relief to see DS Najib taking necessary early step in this matter being dragged further and can cause damage to Barisan’s morale and people’s impression on Barisan’s line-up.
For days it has been covered in major news headlines. Starting with request made by UMNO Penang in heading Barisan Penang Chairmanship. Suprising indeed for me to see sudden move from Penang UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The reason for such request was due to Umno held all the seats won by the Barisan in the state in the last GE12. UMNO holds 11 seats while the Pakatan pact of DAP, PKR and PAS, which forms the state government, holds the other 29 seats in the 40-seat state legislative assembly.
In response to such request, it is understandable that Gerakan resist to let go off the post. Of course, having the trust in holding the post for 35 years from Barisan leaders, sudden request from other party from the coalition sounds not that favourable. Gerakan asked UMNO to respect what have been agreed 35 years ago, when the actual request came from Penang.
The sequence of responses were expected. Some UMNO leaders voiced out their opinion (Of course, when “backed up” by other UMNO leaders, it sounds as Penang Gerakan is cornered). It was then Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi came with responses such as Penang BN Chairmanship Prerogative Of PM and MCA leader’s made their opinion on the issue.
With DS Najib request for all Barisan leaders corncerned to stop open discussion on the tussle for the post of Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, I do hope the request is heeded and respected by all Barisan leaders, like what Gerakan is doing.
It is not because of Barisan leaders cannot question each other for the betterment, but it is the manner and the condition of such query and request. As far as I am concerned, until Pakatan really get registered officially in ROC and really settle down with different ideologies (of course, once settled down, which I see PAS is walking down the road which UMNO was allegedly doing), Barisan leaders need to buckle up and improve things.
If really Penang Gerakan is not performing as alleged, then Gerakan should start improving things and UMNO Penang give them a helping hand. Yes, without any deny, UMNO did won all the seats they can in Penang, but it does not mean Gerakan do not contribute in the seats that UMNO won.
Since there are issues and rumours in relation to the welfare and quality of living of Bumis and Indians in Penang that have been pointed out since the request news broken out, I suppose that Gerakan need to look into the issues alleged and act on it. Why? Because the same issue similarly is haunting Penang DAP right now.
Whatever it is, Barisan leaders need not to “quarrel” among themselves and act on responsibilities that have been given. The post held is no use if the responsibilities given is not carried out. Whatmore to ask more post when the task in hand cannot be carried out.
Words on the street: It’s time to work boys.. stop politicking..the people is watching.. and this applies to Pakatan too.. improvments are expected after Pakatan’s convention.
